Lynda Pike – Artist Statement
I worked twenty-five years as a graphic artist/art director. My paintings have been accepted into many local and international competitions. I have my own studio in Rocklin, Calif., and participate in the Placer Autumn Art Tour and will be in the Third Annual Art Studio Trek in Roseville, Rocklin, Loomis, & Granite Bay on April 25 – 26. I’ve had shows at the Auburn City Hall, Auburn Library, Rocklin Library, Latitudes Restaurant (Auburn), Foothills Lighting and Design (Auburn Art Walk), and Sunset Whitney Country Club (Rocklin) and participated in the Maidu Center Art show in Roseville.
I work primarily in watercolor, acrylic, and mixed media. I have been working
In acrylics and exploring fluid acrylics over foil collage this last year.
The more I work with acrylics the more I lean toward becoming an experimental painter, which is very liberating and exciting.
The joy in my work comes from the process of creating it. From the blank piece of paper or canvas to the preplanning and visualization of the subject, the color choices, composition, paint application, and problem solving, all the steps in the process, is the challenge. And if all the pieces come together to meet my visualized idea that’s the reward. If in the end the painting pleases me that’s satisfaction. If it doesn’t I work on figuring out how to make it work and hopefully learn something that will carry over to the next painting.
Each subject presents a new challenge. My work reflects a variety of styles, subject matter, and color palettes. I seem to paint a little differently in each painting at this stage of my exploration as an artist. I paint anyway I need to, to express how I feel about the subject or that moment in time. As long as I’m exploring the process of painting my style will be ever changing. I enjoy trying new things and ideas in my paintings and enjoy all the options that are open to me as an artist.
